Airbnb offers vacation homes in Finland. Our two cottages are
original small traditional working family homes in the middle of nature.
Penttilä Gardens - an open space in the midst of forests and lakes -
the name gardens applies to the period in which Penttilä was a center
for horticulture and a fruit and vegetable farm. The inhabitants left
somewhere during the sixties of the twentieth century and the forest
reclaimed the gardens, the berry field and the orchard; the fields were
planted with fir trees and birches. The five hundred and fifty meter long
drive to the house was slowly overtaken by the forest. Sometimes people
would venture to reach the wilderness garden to dig up certain garden plants
and young oak trees - oaks can only be found in the far south west of
Finland, but the micro climate here makes it possible for certain plants to
grow this far from the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland.
Now there are two cottages
available for people who enjoy nature and love to swim and hike or just take
it easy and listen to the calm and peaceful sounds of the forest. One or two
times a year a fisherman rows by one of the cottages.

A COTTAGE IN FINLAND - The Finnish summer is relatively short but is flooded with magical light and a surge of natural growth, every moment of which Finns savor and relish. Fishing, boating, sauna bathing, berry picking and eating are the favored pastimes, and Finns appreciate and value the elements of withdrawn, contemplative privacy that the summer house retreat affords. Visit Finland! The Finnish summer home is ideally situated close to water - sea or lake, almost always on a forested shoreline, with a wood-burning sauna within easy reach. Summer houses are scattered throughout the country, and cottages available for holiday rent enable visitors to enjoy the same replenishing pleasures as their Finnish hosts. Visit Finland! Penttilä Kartano (manor) used to be a vegetable and fruit farm - in the greenhouses tomatoes, paprika, grapes and a variety of flowers were grown. Horticulture was one of its specialties. Since the fifties of the twentieth century nature has been recapturing its terrain. But certain species of plants have persevered and they recall the period that Penttilä was one of the most famous nurseries of the region.

Penttilä is situated in Etelä-Savo in south eastern Finland in Kangasniemi, between the cities of Jyväskylä and Mikkeli - both a sixty kilometers drive. Each has museums and theaters - Kangasniemi center with its shops is ten kilometers from Penttilä.
Penttilä has its private beach - or rather shoreline, on Lake Synsiö - there is a smoke sauna, as well as a normal one with a wood furnace of course - in the summer the water temperature varies between 20 and 26 degrees.
for those who like to fish, or just want to row, there are two rowboats available.

The autumns in Finland are famous for their myriad of colors - ruska, as the Fins call it, is one of the most beautiful periods of the year
